NEW YORK, Nov 27 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks looked set to rebound on Tuesday from the previous day''''''''s drop after Citigroup Inc. got a $7.5 billion capital injection from Abu Dhabi, adding to confidence that major banks can withstand the mortgage market crisis.

The investment in Citigroup (C.N: Quote, Profile, Research) may be a catalyst for stocks to emerge from their November slump, a slide that has dragged major indexes 10 percent or more below 52-week highs set in October. A 10 percent decline is considered a market correction, Wall Street''''''''s first in more than four years.

Futures initially surged on the news but later pared gains. Citigroup shares were up 2.8 percent $30.62 after rising to $31.75 earlier.

"Everybody was so excited to see Citi get that injection from Abu Dhabi, but maybe people thought they rallied too much, said Todd Leone, head of listed trading at Cowen & Co. in New York. "I wouldn''''''''t be surprised if we rallied back up."

Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the world''''''''s largest sovereign wealth fund, is purchasing a 4.9 percent stake of Citigroup, the largest U.S. bank.

Despite the Citigroup news, financial shares, especially in the mortgage business, could be under pressure after U.S. existing single-family home prices, as measured by the S&P/Case-Shiller index on Tuesday, suffered the largest quarterly decline in the index''''''''s 21-year history.

A market rebound also could be limited as crude oil prices fell sharply, threatening to weigh on energy stocks. Oil futures tumbled $2.12 to $95.58 a barrel on expectations of an OPEC supply boost.
