Hanel moulds a brighter future

Ha Noi''s Hanel Plastics Joint-Stock Company is developing steadily with a 15 per cent year-on-year revenue increase and a 50 per cent year-on-year growth.

The company, which was one of the first to carry out equitisation in Ha Noi eight years ago, has gained VND23 billion (US$1.5 million) in the first ten months of this year, an 8 per cent increase over last year''s period.

Hanel''s production includes Styrofoam (sponge) for packaging, helmets, lifebuoy, electrical equipment, and plastic covers for telephones, TV sets and air conditioners.

According to director Hoang Minh Chau, the company''s growing output of Styrofoam and plastic electronic parts has helped reduce the country''s imports.

The budget contribution so far this year is worth VND2.8 billion and is expected to rise by 10 per cent at the year''s end while revenue should increase by 34 per cent in 2003.

The company has coordinated with universities in Ha Noi and centres abroad to open staff training courses on machinery operation, plastic production technologies, work safety and hygiene.

The enterprise has two Ha Noi Styrofoam factories, one in Vinh Tuy Commune, Thanh Tri District and the other in Sai Dong Industrial Zone in Gia Lam District.

Recently Hanel has invested VND15.7 billion in building a plastic factory in Sai Dong IZ, which started operation last month, bringing the company''s total annual capacity from 1,000 tonnes to 2,500 tonnes.

The firm has also invested as a shareholder in the Hanel Interior Furniture Joint-Stock Company and the Ha Noi Telecom JointStock Company.

Hanel is applying the ISO 9002 quality management system to ensure product quality, environmental protection and optimum working conditions and has been certified by the Quartcert to meet Vietnamese quality standards.
